Our Story

The álarita Story

In 2003, our family moved to Ayden, NC so La Rita, a horse lover, could have room to ride and stable her horses.
After moving there, La Rita & Doug decided to start a garden so we could be self sufficient and eat healthier food! Subsequently, we found that we had FAR more vegetables than we could eat, so our family began selling the excess at the Leroy James Farmers Market.
Interestingly enough, we still couldn’t sell all of our tomatoes and peppers! So a lot STILL went bad! Luckily, another vendor at the market recommended that we make Salsa with what’s left over! So we did!
We began with Fresh Salsas that contained nothing more than fresh vegetables and a couple of seasonings. We messed around with different recipes and had a blast! This is what led us to the core products we have today! These salsas were a smash hit, but we quickly realized that THESE would go bad quickly as well! So we created a solution! La Rita acquired her Canning License and, along with her family, began canning the salsas that were left over.
Now, we have healthier salsa’s that your whole family will enjoy! Our Salsa’s are:

  • All Natural
  • Gluten Free
  • Fresh Tasting
  • No Sugar Added
  • No Preservatives Added

“Our mission is to help our customers Eat Healthy and Enjoy Salsa” in new and unique ways! That’s why we’re constantly accepting guest recipes and creating our own, all using álarita Salsa!

But remember! There’s only ONE WAY to Eat Healthy and Enjoy álarita… Grab some!

Meet the Family!

Managing Member

After our family moved from Illinois in 1996, I was in the Health & Fitness industry for over 12 years. Because of that, I was ALWAYS looking for new, unique ways for our family to eat healthy. I'd spend a lot of time throwing things together in the kitchen.
When we moved to the country, I figured that was the perfect opportunity to hit the ground running so we started a garden. Well, you know where that lead! 😂
Aside from business, I love to Horseback Ride, attend exercise classes, do yoga and am an active advocate for dog rescue. I'm currently working to build community awareness for the Leroy James Farmers Market by working as it's manager. Being a local business, I highly recommend that you support your local community. It makes a HUGE difference by keeping money right there at home!

Director of Advertising/Operations

I started out as the Art Director for a large mail order company in Illinois. After the company was bought out, the new owners dissolved the mail order division, which meant I was out of a job. Funny enough, LaRita's mom brought over a catalog that they ordered from occasionally and told me to send my resume. Well, long story short, that's why we moved to Greenville, NC. The company hired me on the spot. 👍🏻

While growing up, my parents ALWAYS had a garden. I really enjoyed being able to walk to it, grab some fresh fruit/veggies and chow down! So when we decided to move to the country, I was excited to start a family garden of our own, so I could do it again!

What's cool is that my skills form Graphic Design fit right in with álarita! I create the logos, advertising materials, labels, etc. and have a blast doing it!

So when you see our little Pepper Man shaking his maracas, imagine me doing the same thing while eating salsa! 😜

Director of Marketing

I worked as a Nurse Aid at Vidant Medical Center for 10 YEARS! So I'm MORE than qualified to make food! 😂

During my time there, though, I was doing multiple sales jobs on the side to learn how to sell. After leaving the hospital in 2015, I learned to market by doing Road Shows in Sam's Clubs around Easter NC and America! The ONLY reason I did any of these things is to grow in business.

In 2017, my marketing office closed, so I decided to work in álarita! full time! Now you'll see me plastered on Facebook and doing tastings all over NC, and soon enough AMERICA!
